Fuji Rock Festival is an annual rock festival organized by Smash Japan, held in Naeba, Japan. The 3-day event features Japanese and international musicians performing on 7 different stages. In 2007, more than 127,000 people attended the festival. Among them 14,000 were campers who set up more than 7,000 tents. |
The Green stage is the main stage and it has a capacity for 40,000 spectators. The White Stage has a capacity for 10,000. The Red Marquee has a capacity for 5,000. The Orange Court has a capacity for 5,000. The Field of Heaven has a capacity for 5,000. The Rookie a go-go has a capacity for 1,000. And the Gypsy Avalon has a capacity for 500. The festival began in 1997. The first festival was actually located near Mt. Fuji, hence the name, Fuji Rock. The second year, the festival moved to a temporary location in Toyosu, Tokyo. It was in 1999 the festival found its home in Naeba, at the Naeba Prince Hotel ski resort, Niigata prefecture. The location in Naeba is stunning, set amidst forested mountains, far away from city life and daily routine, you'll love this festival and its unique atmosphere. Be prepared for lots of walking as it isn't very close between stages. Some of the bands that will be played in 2008 are Bettye Lavette, Blackmarket, Bootsy Collins Tribute to the Godfather of Soul, The Breeders, CSS, Eastern Youth, Flower Travellin’ Band, The Go!Team, Gogol Bordello, Hard-FI, IAN Brown, Lettuce, M!NK, Melee, The Music, My Bloody Valentine, Mystery Jets , Primal Scream , Princess Superstar, Seasick Steve, Special Others, Spoon, Switch, and Underworld.
